If you have completed your degree and for entering into the professional world you have ambivalent thoughts of apprehension and excitement, then get rid of them by following the six steps for job-hunting as listed below:

Decide your Career Path

While pursuing studies, you decide as which career to adopt. If you have not decided the same, them evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and chose a career that is best suited for you. Take decision about your career on the basis of your likings and disliking. Contemplate over the working scenario you want and kind of tasks you would love to do. Search about the career that fascinates you and grab as much knowledge about it as you can. Discuss your interests with others to take advice. Be determined with your thoughts and interests.

Study about the Companies that fascinate you

It is very important that you gather sufficient information about the companies; you want to be a part of. Evaluate all the alternatives with sheer knowledge and expertise. Do consider what opportunities, the companies of your interest provide. Do read articles, blogs and other related sources that throw light on the performance of companies, so as to ensure their stability.

Prepare a job-search toolkit

A job-search toolkit includes a resume, cover letter and a portfolio of your work that contains your work history. A resume should reflect your strengths and experiences. For a fresher, a functional resume is recommended that reveals individual’s abilities. Highlight your achievements and results in the resume. Use action words to make it impressive. If not experienced for full time, search for part time jobs.

Use networking for searching job

There are many job opportunities in networks around you; what you need to do is just to explore them. Make best use of the resources you have. Your network including friends and acquaintances, previous professors, career placement office of school, seniors, your parents’ friends, social networking websites etc. can help you in searching or providing a good job. Circulate your resume in your acquaintances. Keep writing e-mails to your contacts asking about the job.

Maintain a professional conduct

From your resume to your clothing, everything needs to be professional. While attending interviews, present yourself in business suits. Your e-mail user name should be decent. If you have e-mail username such as ‘coolboy22’, you must make a new id. Be ready for interview call that could ring up anytime. Behave like a trained professional and get equipped with professional skills.

Never get discouraged

Be ready to face any kind of challenge. Don’t shy away to start from below. Be realistic about your expectations. Don’t get discouraged with the rejections, as one learns slowly. Give your best to your work and remain confident.
