Tips to Travel on a Budget

by on January 4, 2011

The common man as we now know was once a nomad. The man, before everything else, learnt how to travel and explore. The quest to see the unseen has been the greatest driving force for all the mankind.

Travelling gives us the pleasure, which can’t be found in routine. A good traveler is the one who has no fixed plans and no intent on arriving. A long and eventful journey can be made more joyous if you budget it wisely.

Following are the simple steps that can simplify the seemingly hectic task of travel budgeting and can prove the popular saying “When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money then take half the clothes and twice the money” wrong.

Do research:

It is your money and you will surely do whatever it takes to save it. Go through a thorough research and find out what suits you the best. Search for the cheap transportation and accommodation. Internet is the best way to pick up the best deals, whereas you can also refer to magazines and manuals.

Carry a friend along:

You can share the expenses of accommodation and food. You can enjoy more and have fun. Moreover, there is no sure way to find whether you like the person or not than to travel with him.

Spend less:

Walk around more and get to know from local people how you can maximize your stay. Don’t spend where you need not to.

Wary of tour packages:

Though they look tempting, tour packages most of the times end up being a regret. It is important to be vigilant and choose the best deal.

Avoid spending at extravagant meals:

You need not go in for sumptuous meals while travelling, which is bad for your stomach and your pocket too. Go for the local delicacies, which are cheap and easily available.

Visit local hot-spots:

Don’t consider yourself as a foreigner and along with tourist locations wander the local spots as well, as the true places are never seen on the map. Wandering re-establishes the original harmony between the man and the universe.

Carry the necessities:

Carry all the daily usage items with you rather than buying them at a new place. Sanitary necessities, important medicines etc should be taken care of before the departure.

Tips for the safe journey:

  • Don’t carry expensive valuables or too much cash. If you haven’t left your valuables at home, keep them safe at your hotel room.
  • Hide your cash at different places, so as to make sure that if you lose your wallet somewhere, not all your money is gone.
  • Keep in touch with your family and friends and keep them updated about your whereabouts.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings and don’t draw any kind of attention.
  • Don’t share your travelling plans with strangers and never accept any eatables or packets from them.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get ready for an exotic journey that is easy on your pocket and proves to be a life-changing experience.

Have a safe and great journey.

Great tips and thanks for sharing. While hotel deals are great for solo travelers or couples, if you’re traveling in a group of more than just you and your significant other, consider a vacation rental. The amenities and space you get almost always means a better value. And even if you’re solo or a couple, a vacation rental may still be the better choice for you in terms of dollar spent and value gained.
